This first time in Lotto Stories we take a look at the former Postal Worker from East Kilbride, Angela Kelly who won £35.4 million!

The 42 year old postal worker was living in a £40,000 house with a income of £21,000 a year when she won a cool £35.4 million, earning her approximately £21,000 a week in interest alone!

 Angela Kelly

One Monday morning, she strolled into work at the sorting office completely unaware that she had the winning ticket sitting in her handbag. She'd spent Saturday night out with pals and Sunday sitting at home watching TV.

It wasn't until she was on a break (having heard that the EuroMillions jackpot had gone unclaimed) that she decided to check her ticket. Describing herself as 'flabbergasted', she asked friends at work to check the numbers as she couldn't believe she had won.

Completely flustered, Angela telephoned the lottery operator's claim line to confirm she'd won, only to find she'd dialled the gambling helpline by accident! Another call later confirmed her dreams were indeed true...

The £35.4 million jackpot made Angela the biggest ever UK lottery jackpot winner.

The winner Angela Kelly then went on to buy a £225,000 home - for her boyfriend's wife.

Angela, 40, also gave Janice Quinn, who has been separated from husband Billy for two years, a big cash handout.

Nurse Janice then splashed out on a detached villa for herself and her two teenage kids. She paid for the property in cash and did not even need to sell her terraced house first.

Friends revealed that big-hearted Angela had dished out large amounts of cash to friends and family, including Janice, weeks after she won her £35million EuroMillions fortune.

A friend said: "Angela wanted other people to benefit from her big win."

"She loves Billy and he's still on good terms with his wife Janice.

"Angela knows how much Billy loves his children and knew that if she gave Janice some money it would mean Billy's kids would benefit.

"Janice was over the moon. She wasn't sure about taking the cash at first but realised how much it would improve her life.

"She went house-hunting straight away and found a lovely detached villa not far from her old house in East Kilbride.

"She bought it and paid the whole £225,000 in cash.

"It means Janice doesn't have a mortgage anymore and she has extra money for the kids.

"The profit she made from her last house, about £37,000, went straight into her bank account.

"It's a safety net for Janice and means she has savings if she needs it for the kids."

Janice and Billy, who have a 17-year-old son, Matthew, and 15-year-old daughter, Frances, had been married for almost 20 years when they split up two years ago.

They sold their £130,000 family home in Rutherglen, near Glasgow, and bought separate properties - Billy a tiny bachelor flat and Janice a small terraced house.

Not long after the split, Billy, 43, began seeing mum-of-one Angela, who worked beside him at the Royal Mail sorting office in Springburn, Glasgow.

But he has stayed on good terms with his wife.

Janice put her terraced home in East Kilbride's Calderwood area up for sale after she got her new home - and told estate agents she was in no hurry to sell. It eventually sold for a fixed price of £135,000 - making a delighted Janice a £37,000 profit.

The source added: "Angela's delighted she could help out.

"She's very good natured and has had a lot of bad press, which is unfair.

"Angela just wanted other people to benefit from her win.

"She's not the type to splash out on designer clothes and exotic holidays.

"She wants to be happy and she wants her friends and family to be happy too."

At the time of her big win, Angela promised she would help out family members and pals with her new fortune, including boyfriend Billy and estranged husband Gerry, who she split from eight years previously.

The source said: "Other woman would be bitter and see Janice as a love rival, but not Angela.

"She has a big heart."

When she became Britain's richest ever lottery winner last August, Angela, who has a teenage son, John, revealed she was very happy with the new man in her life.

Angela earns £5000 a day in interest alone - adding up to almost double her old salary of £21,000 a year every week.
